Australians are enjoying transforming their homes into "luxury five star resorts" according to reports. Sales manager for the Summit Homes Group, George Sinclair, has said that more and more people are seeing their homes as somewhere they want to spend time, and not just a roof over their head.
Popular ideas include grand outdoor areas, home cinemas, retreat style bedrooms and luxury bathrooms.
Anthony Oldershaw, sales and marketing manager for Aussie Living Homes, says that the big, basic designs of the past are being replaced with modern, easy to live in, solar efficient homes.
"Homes have become much less formal in the past few years, with a definite focus on outdoor living," Mr Oldershaw says. "Purchasers are more inclined to have a bigger bedroom and ensuite rather than a formal dining room and they are concerned about the indoor outdoor interaction of their living areas."
Affordable Living Homes general manager Michael Gangemi says with children staying at home longer, parents are opting for open plan living, and luxurious and private master suites.
