Affordable homes can hardly be found in Brisbane
Brisbane and Perth are the most expensive cities to buy a home in Australia, the Council of Australian Governments Reform Council report shows.
According to the report only 9.8 per cent of homes in Brisbane are affordable while Perth is even worse with 5.5 per cent of affordable homes.
"A home is considered affordable if a household would not have to spend more than 30 per cent of its before-tax income on mortgage repayments,” stated in the report.
The data also reveals that Melbourne has the highest proportion of affordable homes (39.1 per cent), and other more affordable places are Adelaide (32.4 per cent) and Canberra (31.6 per cent).
More than two-thirds of households in Australia own a home, either with or without a mortgage, the report further shows.
