Mortgage Brokers popular with younger buyers

First home buyers are finding brokers the best way to gain information and source home loans.  According to figures from the MFAA/Bankwest Home Finance Index 42% of first home buyers under the age of 29 are more likely to use a broker and 31% of first home buyers planned to use a broker when buying their home.

Phil Colton, head of broker sales at Bankwest highlights that brokers provide a great option for home buyers when looking for information and finding a loan.

"Satisfaction with brokers has consistently trended higher than other home loan sources. Since the very first survey in June 2006, brokers have always been more favourable with borrowers," Colton said.

"Brokers ranked third (10 per cent), behind the internet (23.9 per cent) and own research (18.8 per cent)."

One reason for this figure may be that younger borrowers often don't have established relationships with financial institutions says MFAA CEO Phil Naylor.  With interest rates low and first home buyer grants available many first home buyers are looking to purchase a property soon.

However, buyers are smart, and know that experience and training is important.  The survey shows that 78.9 per cent of repsondants believe finding a mortgage broker who is a member of an industry body is a priority.
