An increase in enquiries and interest from first homebuyers is being attributed to the increase in the government's First Home Buyer Grant. Agents are reporting they received a large number of enquiries following the announcement last month.
In South Australia, the biggest bargains are in such regional towns as Port Pirie, Coonalpyn and Bordertown where liveable homes are on offer for less than $100,000. "We've had more inquiries because of the grants that are being given but there's no indication the grant will last," Century 21 Pirie Properties agent Nathian Jeffries said. "People want to get in before they miss out."
The grant was doubled to $14,000 for first home buyers purchasing established homes and tripled to $21,000 for new homes.
According to the Real Estate Institute of SA, rural areas are becoming more popular. President Rob Turner said that remote areas were increasing in popularity due to the state's mining boom and the supply was good which results in lower prices.
