Home owners grant increased to $11,000
The Queensland Government will give an additional $4000 grant to first home buyers in areas outside of south east Queensland. This move has increased Home Owners Grant to $11,000, aiming to encourage more people to purchase property in the regional areas.
This government move is part of its response to the Growth Management Summit held in March.
However, Cameron Kusher of RP Data said that the additional grant may boost the number of first home buyers but will consequently inflate house prices.
''This will be a quite a good shot in the arm for areas outside the south east, but long-term, the effects could be negative,'' Kusher warned. He explained that this initiative will drive up prices too high and prospective buyers can’t even afford to buy a property.
The increase in first home buyer’s grant follows the announcement that three new cities will be built in southeast Queensland, specifically at Ripley Valley in Ipswich and Yarrabilba and Greater Flagstone in Logan. These cities are expected to accommodate a total of 250,000 people.
